What is El Dorado High School’s Digital Media Arts Academy?

The DMAA is a four-year digital storytelling program in the fields of film and television, photography and animation with an emphasis on career and college readiness.  DMAA students complete senior projects related to their focus area and earn special recognition at graduation.  They also have opportunities to earn industry certification, college credit, internships, awards and other recognition through these programs.

What core classes are part of the DMAA programs?

Special core classes in Language Arts and History/Social Science are offered for DMAA students at EVERY grade level.  DMAA students not placed in Honors/AP classes will be enrolled automatically.  These classes allow academy students to work together and participate in some assignments throughout the year that compliment their efforts in the digital arts programs.  El Dorado also offers several other traditional art classes, acting and scriptwriting courses as electives.

Who can enter and apply?  How do you apply?

Students can only apply to join El Dorado’s DMAA before their freshman and sophomore years.  Students can apply by filling out this application, completing the essay, video submission and letter of recommendation and turning them in by the required deadline.  Incoming freshmen need to apply at the latest by April 19th.  Current freshman who will be sophomores need to apply by February 24th.  All transfer applicants need to apply by February 24th.  Students already in the DMAA need to decide by February 24th if they wish to remain in the program.

What DMAA classes do freshmen take?

DMAA freshmen all take a Digital Careers class instead of the regular career planning class.  They also take Digital Arts Language Arts I if they are not in Honors Language Arts.  Freshman may also elect to take the beginning classes in their digital arts focus program if they have room in their schedule and wish to get a head start.

What DMAA classes do sophomores take?

DMAA sophomores take the special LA-II and World History DMAA core classes and begin work in their Digital and Media Arts FOCUS class.  (Video 1, Beginning Photography or Beginning Animation)  Students who have already completed those courses may choose to apply for Advanced Video, Advanced Animation and Advanced Photography.
